If you've ever heard anything about dubstep, then you've most likely heard of mega-producer Datsik. A pioneer of the American dubstep movement, Datsik hasn't enjoyed as much press and giants like Bassnectar or Skrillex, but definitely has a massive following and is on his way to becoming top-tier. Datsik launched a huge tour this fall, "Firepower Tour" featuring the incredible 'Vortex' lighting set up, which literally has him playing inside a circle as it spins and creates crazy images and designs. Its revolutionary lighting production, and really shows that stage production has no limits. Into electronic music but need a break from the body-pounding, brain-twisting heavy stuff? Look no further than The Polish Ambassador. Signed to 1320 Records (the label owned by livetronica giants STS9), TPA's music is a rare blend of many electronic genres, including electro, hip-hop, dub, breaks, and much more. He's got a incredibly unique style; his songs sound unlike anything else you've heard before, and if that wasn't enough, his lives show feature him "live mixing", using computers and MIDI instruments to make each track exclusively unique for that particular show. His sound just makes you want to dance without having to go bonkers over intense drops or screechy wobbles. Lucky for listeners, he's got his entire discography for free off his website...wow. FRESHALICIOUS DUBSTEP

Odd that rising California producer Minnesota doesn't hail from the state where he gets his namesake, but we'll let that slide since his music more than makes up for it. Minnesota is a really innovative producer, making some really melodic dubstep, while also making some tracks with that good ol' filth your seasoned basshead enjoys. He's recently remixed Adventure Club's "Need Your Heart" and has a brand new EP 'Altered States' coming out November 23. He's continuing to grow, having acts such as Bassnectar and PANTyRAID incorporate his tracks into their live sets. You can get tons of free downloads of his tracks just by liking his facebook page. IMPROV JAMTRONICA BAND

EOTO playing out of their new live light system, "The Lotus".

EOTO has recently become one of my favorite bands, and if you take a listen to their funky sounds, you'll know why. EOTO formed as a side project of the famous Colorado band String Cheese Incident, comprising of members Jason Hahn and Michael Travis. Where as SCI is a much more multi-genre band, EOTO is much more electronic while still having that signature jam-band style. The really awesome thing about EOTO is that every live show they play is completely improvisational- yes, you heard me right- they literally just make up all their songs while they're playing live. It's incredible enough to be able to do that, but for those songs to also be extremely funky and dance-able? That really takes some talent. If you happen to live around the Maryland/DC area, they are playing a show this Wednesday, November 21st at Rams Head Live with Downlink. They're live shows are one-of-a-king and surely are not to be missed. If you can't make it to the show, check out some free downloads below of their live shows, and you will not be disappointed.

ELECTRO/DUBSTEP TRIO

Making huge noise (pun intended) in 2012 is emerging EDM trio Krewella. The group, out of Chicago, consists of sisters Jahan Yasaf and Yasmine Yasaf and "Rain Man" Kris Trindl. The three make for a really exciting and downright awesome grouping, known for high energy live shows. They recently released a documentary, KREWLIFE, giving us a glimpse into the hectic year they've had. They've been across the country, playing at huge festivals such as Electric Zoo, Counterpoint, and most recently Electric Daisy Orlando. They have a wild sound thats accompanied by beautiful and sexy vocals of the women. You can stream their entire new EP 'Play Hard' off of SoundCloud, and you can buy it off of iTunes or Beatport. Definitely check this group out; they have a huge future ahead of them.

If you live in Virginia or anywhere around Virginia, and are looking for something fun to do around New Years, then please, look no furthur. EDM titans Bassnectar and Pretty Lights are joining forces for a two-night extravaganza at the famous Hampton Coliseum in, of course, Hampton, VA. I know almost every show out there today gets hyped up, but let me assure you that is nothing to pass up. This is surely going to be a legendary event, and if your fan of either Bassnectar or Pretty Lights you are going to want tickets to this. Just a few days ago a HUGE announcement was made, adding support to the show from Big Gigantic, A-Trak, Gramatik, and GRiZ, an artist we have featured on Growth. All of these artists are really unique and have sold out their own personal shows, so you know this is going to be wild. Two night tickets are available for sale now, and I'm going to assume that single night tickets will be offered sometime in December. Whether going for one night or both (like me =D) its going to be a blast and you DO NOT want to miss this. Frank Ocean is a one of a kind artist, and thats really an honor in this age of music. He has a very deep and intellectual side to him, but also contains a youthful and nonchalant tone. If you think you have heard of him before, you probably have; he's apart of Tyler, The Creator's "posse" Odd Future. All of Odd Future are decent rappers but Frank strays away from that notion, and reaches a higher level with his music. He's also a great role model and human being in general; not too long ago the guy wrote a personal open letter to discuss his homosexuality publicly. That takes some major balls and we commemorate him for that. Check out some free mixtapes from the link below, and download his albums off of iTunes.

NEW TRAP

ƱZ is the mysterious identity of a new trap artist emerging out of California. The guy has kept his identity under wraps, forcing many to question who he is (guesses range from Skrillex to just an average 35 year old) but we at Growth don't ever care, because his music is enough. The guy has a really interesting style, contrasting Flosstradamus' more EDM-based trap with his dirty, rap-style trap. His stuff will get a party bumping for sure, or get your car vibrating from the heavy bass. Legendary producer Diplo said "UZ tunes are drunken energy sub bass and cartoon horn stabs that make my stomach feel weird and my feet shuffle." If that doesn't make you interested in listening, I don't know what will. Check out his soundcloud below for tons of free downloads, including long mixes and his new EP.

KOAN Sound is a really interesting dubstep duo hailing from the UK. Signed to Skrillex's OWSLA label, they bring a certain edginess and "deepness" to dubstep that really sets them apart. I first heard them due to a sick remix to Skrillex's Kill Everybody and since then they have just been tearing it up. 2012 has been a big year for them as they recently released their newest EP The Adventures of Sly Fox and even more recently were commissioned to remix the track "Green and Blue" off of the Halo 4 soundtrack. I'm really a huge fan of KOAN's unique sound, and they certainly have a big future ahead of them. We've got a free download of a huge collaboration with Gemini, Culprate and Asa. If your new to EDM, you might not know what trap music is. Essentially, a new wave of music is hitting the EDM scene called 'trap' which resembles rap and hip-hop beats but blends that particular high-hat sound with electronic music. Its pretty new but already gaining a lot of steam, and one of the frontrunners of the movement is the duo out of Chicago Flosstradamus. These guys have some mad style, recently releasing a 3-part EP simply called "X" that had a lot of foreign flair to it, sampling many artists including some Dutch "hardstyle" tracks. They're touring nationally and soon internationally and I really only see them growing from here on out. They're playing alongside Skrillex and Boys Noize in Detroit for New Year's Eve, which is a huge milestone for this young duo. You can download a lot of their music off of Soundcloud, so head over and check out their stuff.

Earl Sweatshirt is one my favorite rappers. He's apart of Odd Future, a group you may have heard about due to the more popular Tyler, The Creator. Earl is another member of the OF crew, and theres a legitimate debate to whether he is the best rapper of the crew. Some even believe him to be up there with the likes of Nas and Jay-Z in terms of lyricism. I love Earl's flow and his lyricism is definitely amazing; his use of repetition, rhyme, and flow just all combine into an incredible stream of dopeness. He recently released a new track titled 'Chum' that has some eerie piano sounds mixed with his raw flow. We've got a free download below, so check it out and enjoy.

Pretty Lights-esque Dubstep/Glitch-Hop

If you've never heard of GRiZ, you're really missing out. He's pretty new to the scene, but already has been making huge leaps forward. His debut EP, "Mad Liberation" is just simply incredible. Every song on it is different in its own unique way; he blends a lot of styles together while keeping his signature sound still evident. When I first listened to Griz, I almost thought I was listening to a Pretty Lights imposter, but the more I listened, the more I realized how wrong I was. He really his unique from most artists out there, and that's saying something in a time where almost anyone with a computer can make electronic music. Download his entire EP "Mad Liberation" for free and enjoy his vibes!

Future Rock is reaaaal funky. These guys hail from Chicago, and man do they jam. Their music has been classified as electronica, though they pull some inspiration from all types of music, most notably progressive house and dance rock. I am a firm believer that all music should be free. If I had my way, the entire iTunes, Beatport, Spotify libraries would be available for direct download to your favorite mp3 player to listen everywhere you go. Why not? People are touched by music; the beautiful waves that come from your favorite band can incite something inside you that you may have not even knew was there.

I've always loved to share music. I think it's an incredible thing; there is a connection unlike any other when two people can jam out together to the same song, or belt out the lyrics at the same time. Both are on the same beat, the same meter, the same tempo. It's really a pretty cool thing, that people can come together in such a way just because of some vibrations going through the air.

So, driven by my love of music and of sharing music, I decided to create what I believe would be a way to get my idea out there. I wanted to be able to share what I love with as many people as I could. I know music as personally helped me in countless ways over the years, from comforting me when I'm down to lifting me higher than I thought possible. So, I created Growth Music.

Growth Music is the product of my unswerving love of music and my love of connecting with everything around me.  Everyone should have access to good music, and everyone should have access to share. It's a beautiful thing. My goal with Growth is to allow any who wants to share on this blog to have access to do that, and that every thing posted should be available for full download, no strings attached.
