Destroid

Elevate your existence, or prepare to be destroid. That's the motto of the heralded live-dubstep band that promises to leave a lasting impression on festival-goers this summer. Destroid is composed of canadian dubstep pioneer Excision, fellow collaborator and pioneer in his own right Downlink, and KJ Sawka, the drummer from Pendulum (the electronic band that turned into Knife Party).

Not much has been revealed about the newly formed band; what we do know is that they have three separate dates coming up this summer. They will performing in San Francisco (5/31), Baltimore for Moonrise Festival (6/8) and Detroit for Orion Festival (6/9). They have stated on their facebook page that they will have their own custom stage production and 100,000 watts of sound courtesy of PK Sound. If you get the chance to see Destroid this summer, don't miss it. They are going to rock the dance music scene unlike anything that has come yet.

Marvel Years

Yesterday I randomly came across an EP being promoted by the producer himself while scrolling through the Griz Family facebook page. Marvel Years, 19 year-old producer Cory Wythe, is the name of a new face in the electro-soul scene, and his aptly named sophomore EP "Nowhere But Up" left me blown away. This EP contains 5 tracks of electro-soul goodness that reminds me very much so of GRiZ and Pretty Lights

The EP showcases this young artist's current talent and great potential. His opener on the EP, "The East" shows an awesome blend of funk and rawness, as it makes great transitions from groovy keys to raunchy-yet-smooth synths. The rest of the EP follows suit; each track a healthy combination of the electronic bass-music we love while staying true to his soulful foundation. The EP ends with, "Reminisce", an homage to the originators of this growing genre. The song reminds me very much so of some early Pretty Lights, while incorporating synth-leads and even some awesome horn samples.

You can head over to Soundcloud and download the entire EP for free. It's great tunes for the growing summer weather. Take a listen and support this up-and-coming artist.

Moonrise Festival

If your on the east coast, this is one festival this summer you do NOT want to miss. Steez Promo in Baltimore decided to go with a complete re-branding after last summer's final Starscape, so they've come up with the new Moonrise Festival. Last year's Starscape, despite its problems (the venue was over capacity, multiple overdoses) was amazing. They had a truly diverse lineup with huge acts such as Flux Pavilion, Wolfgang Gartner, Dada Life, and Shpongle to name a few. Moonrise, however, takes place in downtown Baltimore over two nights at Sun Park. Taking place in early June, it will be Steez's newest creation, and with the hype it's already generated, it promises to be a spectacular two nights.

We really like Moonrise here at Growth because of its variety. Where else can you get a festival that offers rap (GZA, Hopsin), Jamtronica (Papadosio, STS9), dubstep (Excision, Datsik, Flux Pavilion), electro/house (Porter Robinson, Gareth Emery, Paul Van Dyk) to the unique sounds of heralded artists such as Infected Mushroom, Excision's new live-band Destroid and of course, the headliner, the one and only Pretty Lights. This festival is sure to start precedent for years to come. If your considering any festival this summer, don't let the inaugural Moonrise slip by.

DATSIK

DATSIK

FREE TRAP VIP DOWNLOAD

Datsik playing in the 'Vortex', his new stage production for the Firepower Tour.

If you've ever heard anything about dubstep, then you've most likely heard of mega-producer Datsik. A pioneer of the American dubstep movement, Datsik hasn't enjoyed as much press and giants like Bassnectar or Skrillex, but definitely has a massive following and is on his way to becoming top-tier. Datsik launched a huge tour this fall, "Firepower Tour" featuring the incredible 'Vortex' lighting set up, which literally has him playing inside a circle as it spins and creates crazy images and designs. Its revolutionary lighting production, and really shows that stage production has no limits. We've got a sick free download of a VIP of his 'Bonafide Hustler' trap mix that he's been dropping all over the US. Check out Datsik and the Vortex on tour; until then, enjoy the song!

THE POLISH AMBASSADOR

THE POLISH AMBASSADOR
ELECTRO, GLITCH-HOP

Into electronic music but need a break from the body-pounding, brain-twisting heavy stuff? Look no further than The Polish Ambassador. Signed to 1320 Records (the label owned by livetronica giants STS9), TPA's music is a rare blend of many electronic genres, including electro, hip-hop, dub, breaks, and much more. He's got a incredibly unique style; his songs sound unlike anything else you've heard before, and if that wasn't enough, his lives show feature him "live mixing", using computers and MIDI instruments to make each track exclusively unique for that particular show. His sound just makes you want to dance without having to go bonkers over intense drops or screechy wobbles. Lucky for listeners, he's got his entire discography for free off his website...wow. Check out The Polish Ambassador and enjoy!

MINNESOTA

MINNESOTA
FRESHALICIOUS DUBSTEP

Odd that rising California producer Minnesota doesn't hail from the state where he gets his namesake, but we'll let that slide since his music more than makes up for it. Minnesota is a really innovative producer, making some really melodic dubstep, while also making some tracks with that good ol' filth your seasoned basshead enjoys. He's recently remixed Adventure Club's "Need Your Heart" and has a brand new EP 'Altered States' coming out November 23. He's continuing to grow, having acts such as Bassnectar and PANTyRAID incorporate his tracks into their live sets. You can get tons of free downloads of his tracks just by liking his facebook page. We got a link below, so check them out, and enjoy!

EOTO

EOTO

IMPROV JAMTRONICA BAND
EOTO playing out of their new live light system, "The Lotus".

EOTO has recently become one of my favorite bands, and if you take a listen to their funky sounds, you'll know why. EOTO formed as a side project of the famous Colorado band String Cheese Incident, comprising of members Jason Hahn and Michael Travis. Where as SCI is a much more multi-genre band, EOTO is much more electronic while still having that signature jam-band style. The really awesome thing about EOTO is that every live show they play is completely improvisational- yes, you heard me right- they literally just make up all their songs while they're playing live. It's incredible enough to be able to do that, but for those songs to also be extremely funky and dance-able? That really takes some talent. If you happen to live around the Maryland/DC area, they are playing a show this Wednesday, November 21st at Rams Head Live with Downlink. They're live shows are one-of-a-king and surely are not to be missed. If you can't make it to the show, check out some free downloads below of their live shows, and you will not be disappointed.
